Summary:
|
The U.S. Department of Education Office of Civil Rights (OCR) sent a letter to the Texas Education Agency and all local (public) education agencies in the State of Texas relative to Title VI Compliance Certification. This certification letter reinforces federal non-discrimination policies and existing policies of the state of Texas including those promulgated under Governor Abbott’s January 31, 2025, Executive Order No. GA-55, banning unlawful discrimination.
Local Education Agencies (public school districts) who receive federal funds must sign the certification.
Crowley ISD local board policy, relative to purchasing and acquisition (CH-LOCAL) contains language regarding minority participation goals that may be construed to be misaligned with the aforementioned OCR guidance and that of Executive Order No. GA-55.
As such, our legal team has prepared the attached revisions to our current board policy to ensure compliance.
